How to Make a Gift Basket

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

There aren’t many people who dislike receiving a basket of gifts now and again. However there are those who get far greater satisfaction from making their own, either for business or for personal reasons. Making your own gift basket is a great way of using up your creative juices. All your craftmaking skills are brought to bear. But many potential artists are stopped at the outset, unsure how to proceed. Don’t panic, it needn’t be all that difficult.  Some choices you can have include a gift basket of wine and gift basket of chocolate.

Deciding on a theme is the very first thing that you should do before making your gift basket. Your gift basket can be about anything. Have a family member who’s a great reader? A gift basket consisting of books will therefore be a thoughtful choice. In addition to the books, some chocolate may be nice so that they can consume it whilst reading their books. Does someone you know like playing chess? You could include a mini chess set for traveling and perhaps some books on how to improve their game.

Now it’s time to think of the layout. It might be that you would like to make a sketch of it of you might just think of the design in your mind. A list of all the materials you’ll need is also necessary along with the tools and sizes. Now that you have your list you can start shopping for all that you need. See, this is fun already.

A gift basket wouldn’t be complete without a basket of course. Essentially, you can buy anything that grabs your attention as long as it’s big enough to hold everything you want to inlcude - a traditional wicker container, an antique coffee can, an ancient toy bucket or a contemporary planter. Try to find something that goes well with your theme.

OK, so you’ve picked out the gifts and the basket, now you’ll need to wrap it all up. Cellophane is one possible choice. However you could also opt for wax paper which is great to work with but also adds an extra element of surprise in terms of opening it.
